Free Money, Just Work for it!

People find motivation in many different forms and ways, it could be music or a book but often there is little reason for what drives people it could be seen someone jog by that is just the thing that spurs you to get off the couch, or a cooking show that makes you want to try a new recipe. But one thing almost everyone can agree on that is highly motivating is money, financial stability, and recognition for hard work accomplished. Which helps support the compelling argument for free tuition for students who apply themselves and maintain an 80 percent average overall.  As a returning mature student what kept me from applying earlier in life and what likely keeps many people from returning to school was the looming cost of tuition plus all of the additional costs of the books and parking and so on. Knowing that a large portion of that expense would be refunded providing I worked hard enough I would have been back in school sooner. Most students are under 20 and debt often follows education not a pretty scene to face when entering the work world for the first time. Colleges should be proud to offer such options to their students (Trent University does this) and increase their validity as a post secondary education of option in the eyes of the board of colleges oversee students and other potential future alumni. For students who aren’t around 70 to 79% average it would likely make them double their efforts and better prioritize things to aim for the tuition free 80%, it would create more drive in purpose for those that may need an extra boost. The entire process of paying for post secondary education should be scrapped and restarted, following the path of Sweden with free tuition. If people are willing to take the time and energy to try and improve their lives why should they be charged absorbent amounts of money before even walking into the first class. I do realize Fleming College is a business before anything else and that businesses need to make money but the costs of inflated to boggling rates and could stand being rained in. It would be nice to see any of these suggested policies take effect before the end of my lifetime but I’m aware of realities in with a large undertaking it would be and how much some people would baulk at the idea of it,  but hard work done consistently towards improving yourself should not cost money, it should reap it.
